Job Description:
We are looking for a hands-on, talented, and experienced Residential Support Staff to join our team. As a Residential Support Staff you will be responsible for continuum care of waiver services to the consumer, ensuring the health and safety of all consumers served and implementation of the consumers program goals
We need someone who can communicate clearly and effectively with family members, consumers and external agencies in a professional manner.
Someone who can subscribes to the philosophy and values our work culture. Ability to communications, and adhere to the Policies and Procedures, Provider Manual, Policy Revisions/Clarifications, and Information Letter Clarifications.
As a Residential Support Staff at PepperTree Compete Care you will:
- Assist with activities of daily living and personal care to include bathing, personal hygiene and grooming, dressing, eating, housekeeping and maintenance, ambulation and mobility assistance, assistance with medications and tasks delegated by a RN, support for counseling and therapeutic services, support and assistance with independent living tasks, and securing and/or providing transportation.
- Complete and Perform assessments, participates in individual service plan development and implementation to include skill training and behavior management, documentation of the individual’s care and training, and documentation of services delivered for Medicaid billing.
- Assist the individual with community integration, activities, facilitating social interaction, and socially valued behavior.
- Assist the individual with identifying and developing needed resources, natural supports and community services typical and available to all people.
- Knowledgeable in crisis intervention principles and practices.
- Implement all person-centered plans to assist people in achieving their personal goals and meet their needs and desires.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the individual, family, and significant others, program operations and personnel.
- Maintain professional relationships with department personnel, county personnel, consumers, families, and service providers.
- Service delivery, writing daily communication notes and reports, Punctuality and consistency in attendance for scheduled work assignments, required meetings, training activities, etc.
- Promotion of a constructive, harmonious working relationship among all staff members, the individuals being served, families, other agencies, and the community.
- Seek to know, understand and comply with all applicable standards, policies and procedures.
- Understands and implements all program policies and procedures and follows the proper lines of authority.
- Serve as advocate for the consumer and facilitate the Interdisciplinary Team in the development of the Comprehensive Consumer Service Plan.
- Maintains appropriate dress for scheduled activities and functions as an appropriate role model in behavior and dress for individuals served.
Related Tasks:
- Work assigned schedule and arrive to scheduled shift on time. Work schedule may change to meet individual and program needs.
- Administration of medication without error.
- Ability to keep consumers safe and free from abuse, neglect and exploitation
- Ensure the preservation of all individual rights.
- Provide transportation for people to various activities.
- Assures implementation of services listed on IPC in consultation with contracted professionals and other service providers
- Assist consumers in receiving services which have been identified in the planning process.
- Understands and implements all program policies and procedures and follows the proper lines of authority.
- Schedule and attend as needed medical, health, and dental appointments.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, agency policies and practices, and protection of individual rights
- Ensure fiscal responsibility by protecting agency and individual funds from misuse.
Communication with internal and external stakeholders:
- Establish and maintain impeccable relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
- Ability to comprehend and follow oral and / or written directions.
- Ability to document all service, contact and counseling for each consumer and provide a copy for the consumer’s file.
- Ability to complete All trainings in a timely manner
- All issues that need immediate resolution must be discussed with the Administrative staff immediately.
Specific training courses in this field (explain): First Aid and CPR
Tracking and filing of consumers’ documents
Maintains full, accurate and current documentation of evaluations, assessments, needs, progress, services, financial data, and all other categories of information required in each individual’s record monthly.
Documents to be complete, write, and filed (by date) will include:
- Progress notes
- Incident reports
- IPP data sheets
- BTP data sheets
- Other reports, as necessary
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
- Experience in synthesizing complicated and technical information and translating it into easily understandable and concise documents and/or presentations.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to negotiate competing interests of multiple parties, resolve conflicts, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrates adaptability to performing a variety of duties, occasionally changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency.
Continuum of Care:
- Maintain and promote effective communication between the DSA and other relevant health care professionals in order to implement, monitor and evaluate service delivery.
- Monitor, analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching on patient care outcomes through continuous improvement strategies.
- Advocacy and provide crisis prevention/management to the consumer as needed
- Ensure all consumers, staff and visitors are treated with dignity and respect.
- Attend relevant trainings.
- Participate in ongoing professional development programs and committees.
- Work in close liaison and collaboration with the Nurse, Managers, and with all aspects of staff development and consumer management.
Adverse working environment (e.g. specify extent of exposure to noise, extreme temperature, dirt, dangerous machinery, or other hazardous conditions requiring safety adherence and/or PPE equipment):
- While performing the duties required of this position, the employee is regularly subject to a mentally stressful environment; however, the likelihood of bodily injury or similar occupational hazard is slight. Must have physical and mental stamina and be able to perform successfully under time-limited pressure.
Physical Requirements/Effort: (Specify repetitive lifting, bending, stooping, or other physical effort required):
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines and equipment including, but not limited to, computer and printers, typewriter, fax machine, copier, calculator, and telephone. The position may entail long periods of sitting or driving, depending on circumstances.
- In most cases, physical demand requirements are at a level of those for sedentary or office environment work which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling of light to moderate weight materials (approximately thirty to two hundred pounds).
Must be able to assist with a two-person life of an adult; must be able to do frequent bending and lifting; and must be able to stand for eight (8) hours at a time.
Education and Training Requirements:
- A High School Diploma, or high school equivalency certification with 2- years’ experience previous work experience in in the delivery of services and supports to persons with related conditions or similar disabilities.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation, good driving record, and adequate liability insurance are required.
- Must meet all Agency training requirements.
- This position is also subject to criminal and abuse background checks and may require pre-employment drug screening.
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English effectively; must have a philosophy that is committed to the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the organization; ability to maintain confidentiality; must be a positive team player and maintain a positive attitude; skills in planning, organizing, problem solving, and conflict resolution.

Initial Selection Criteria:
- Must have a working knowledge of Windows Operating System and Office products, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, or the ability to learn them expeditiously and independently.
- Spanish/English proficiency preferred.
- Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
- Perform basic mathematical computations at a minimum sixth-grade level.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Current driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance in the Texas is required.
